Fossilized rocks with over 600 million years on the Geoparque Naturtejo will be a display screen of an outdoor festival of environmental documentaries, the organization revealed to the agency Lusa.

The first edition of the Idanha Film and Internet Festival (IFIF) will take place in September in order to coincide with the
VIII European Geopark Conference.


"This year will be devoted specifically to the movies on geopark," explained the director and organizer of IFIF, Jorge Fialho, to the agency Lusa.

The festival will take place during the 14th to 16th of September. The projections "Docs on the Rocks" will have three sites and will begin on the cliffs and the wall of the dam of Penha Garcia.

The public will be able to watch in a natural amphitheatre in the valley, near the old mills reclassified, or overlooking the castle. The slope of Monsanto and the Roman walls of Idanha-a-Velha, both historical villages will receive documentaries in the following days.

"They are ideal for documentaries on geoparks. And neither was interesting to show films on the environment in a closed cinema, "Jorge Fialho justified.

The VIII European Geopark Conference will take place this year in Idanha-a-Nova.

"We will join hundreds of people to talk about the eco-tourism and natural heritage," said Armindo Jacinto, president of Naturtejo - tourism promotion company that joins the municipalities of Castelo Branco, Idanha-a-Nova, Nisa, Oleiros, Proença-a-Nova and Vila Velha de Ródão.

"It is important to bring people into the nature and get them to know this whole region," notes Jorge Fialho. The IFIF will close its festival giving a multimedia party in the castle of Idanha-a-Nova.

The festival will also have a strong presence on the Internet, with some moments live. “ we will show a few minutes of the festival and encourage communication between users," added Jorge Fialho.

The IFIF has the support of the Geopark Naturtejo and the City of Idanha-a-Nova, among others. In years follow the IFIF wants to serve as a meeting point for festivals throughout the world dedicated to the environment.

"It is a sustainable festival, where the films chosen are those who try to leave a mark to change the society, which needs help quickly," concluded Jorge Fialho.

This year's festival first edition will coincide with the
VIII European Geoparks Conference and will be focused on a theme that is in line with the festivalīs paradigm - the conservation of our worldīs natural heritage - and, more specifically, GeoParks in Europe and worldwide.
